How does a farmhouse counter set bring style? Let us count(er) the ways . . .
- Through Slat Backs. A slat chair back is when slats, or small wooden columns spaced a couple inches apart, make up the backrest of a chair. As opposed to the solid backrest, a slat back design was the pillar of farmhouse designs in the 19th century.
- Through Warm Wood Undertones. Natural wood was really the only material made available to farmers in colonial times. Ergo, authentic “farmhouse style” should follow suit, with oak, pine, maple, beech, birch, and whatever else types of wood material that can be applied to the furniture-making process.
