3 Affordable Ways to Refresh Your Living Room

Before a recent move from Orange County to Seattle, she stopped by Living Spaces to give her new living room a Seattle-friendly refresh. Find out how she revamped the space in three easy and affordable ways.
This California girl has moved to Seattle! I’ve always loved Seattle, so when an amazing job opportunity opened up there for my husband, we knew we had to take it. We found a cute little home and an amazing daycare for our 3 year old, Isla, and we are settling in nicely. Our beachy home decor was definitely going to need a cold weather update, so before we packed our bags, we did a living room refresh at Living Spaces. Whether you're moving cities or just need a revamp, here are three easy and affordable ways to give your living room the pick me up it needs.

Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are a great and inexpensive way to incorporate new trends or add color to your living room. I wanted to add some "Hygge" vibes to our new Seattle home, so I opted for the ivory fur accent pillows to help cozy up the place, and I layered in black and ivory throw pillows for some additional texture. Hygge (pronounced "hoo-gah") is a Danish word that translates to a quality of coziness, contentment and well being through enjoying the simple things in life. Think candles, thick scarves, and hot tea. I'm not going to lie, the cold is hard to get used to (thank goodness puffer jackets are making a comeback!), so anything to add warmth to our home was at the top of my list.

Cute Storage

It's always great to have storage in the living room; it's a good way to minimize clutter while still having a functional living space. We picked up these super cute seagrass baskets, which came in a set of three.  They’re not only pretty, they’re multi-functional!

They can be used to store toys (looking at you, Isla), hold books & magazines, or even stock logs by the fireplace. We decided to use our smallest basket as a planter and our largest basket as storage for throws and pillows. The mid-size basket is the perfect hiding spot for shoe covers. We noticed that Seattle is pretty much a "no shoes in the house" city, so homes will offer disposable shoe covers at the door. Being a bit of a germaphobe, I personally love this custom.

Plants

Plants add a quality of liveliness while feeling fresh and modern, and a bit of green will brighten any room. Some even say that plants contribute to happiness and well-being. My favorite indoor plants right now are snake plants, succulents, and pothos. I admit I have never had a green thumb, so I always go faux. We added a pop of green to our coffee table by placing a faux leafy plant in a Living Spaces’ modern cement vase with gold details, which gives our living room a finishing touch we love.

Our new house is really starting to feel like home. I'm also eyeing the adorable Taylor White Twin Canopy House Bed for Isla!
