What is the Best Quality Leather for Sofas?

The "best" can depend on your personal preference and your budget. Here, however, is a breakdown of the leather types to help guide your decision.
  • Full-Grain: Considered the highest quality leather available, full-grain leather features the entire grain layer, with no surface alterations. It retains the natural surface with visible pores, scars, and other imperfections. Over time, it develops a patina, enhancing its beauty.
  • Top-Grain: This is the second-highest quality of leather. It's similar to full-grain, but the top layer has been sanded down to remove imperfections, resulting in a smoother and more uniform look. It’s still durable but doesn't develop the same patina as full-grain over time.
  • Split: Comes from the fibrous part of the hide that remains after the top-grain has been separated. It's generally tougher and more affordable than full-grain or top-grain but doesn’t offer the same aesthetic or durability.
