Comfort is key when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, so choosing the right mattress will contribute to your overall quality of life. When you’re shopping for full−size mattresses, we have a great selection to make sure you get the perfect fit for your bed frame −− and your body. Most mattresses and foundations −− otherwise known as box springs −− are sold separately so you can customize the height of your bed to your taste. We also provide a range of materials, from memory foam to traditional innerspring mattresses.
Is a Full Mattress Right for You?
As you think about designing your perfect sleeping space, it’s a good idea to understand the dimensions of different beds −− and what that means for the people who sleep in them. Most people think of a "single" bed as being a standard twin mattress. Twin mattresses measure 75 inches long and just 38 inches wide, which is the perfect amount of room for a child and perhaps enough for an adult who doesn't shift positions often during the night.
If twin bed frames are singles, does that mean a full mattress is a double mattress? Surprisingly, no. A full mattress is the same length as a twin, but it's not twice as wide. A standard full is 54 inches wide, which is only about 40 percent bigger. That’s definitely comfortable for one person, but it may be a bit crowded for two.
If you’re considering buying a full mattress as a couple, test it by lying side by side with your arms folded under your head. If you can do so without bumping into each other, a full mattress will work for you. Check also that the taller person in the bed has enough room to stretch out without having their feet dangling off the edge of the bed. If not, a queen or a king mattress will make you happier, as they are both wider and longer than a full-size mattress.
Tips for Choosing the Right Full-Size Mattress
Full−size mattresses work best for single sleepers who are under 5 feet 9 inches tall. If that works for you, be sure to also consider your preferred sleeping temperature as you shop. If you like a cool bed, look for mattresses covered in synthetic materials designed to dissipate body heat and avoid memory foam, as it tends to insulate you. Finally, you’ll also need to decide on the overall height of your bed. Do you want to sleep low to the ground or step up into a plump bed? This is a personal preference and will also depend on the type of bed you get, but modern furniture styles typically look good without a box spring, while traditional beds look best with a taller foundation.
